Elize du Toit, 22, plays Izzy Cornwell in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. The South African-born actress lives near Liverpool with fellow cast members Ali Bastian, who plays Becca, and Sarah Baxendale, who plays Ellie, along with Elize’s dog, Maggie. Elize’s boyfriend is former Hollyoaks actor Ben Hull, who now appears in Brookside.

How would you describe your style?

Classic and comfortable. Comfort is a real priority when I’m dressing.

What colours, shapes and styles suit you best?

Simple, straightforward things. I don’t like fussy patterns. I’ll always go for classically-cut evening dresses.

What’s your current favourite outfit?

My most comfortable one – a pair of low-waisted, wide-legged Seven or Dolce & Gabbana jeans with a T-shirt and my khaki DKNY jacket.

How many pairs of jeans do you own and what make are they?

I have one pair each from Seven, Replay, Guess and Dolce & Gabanna and a couple of pairs from Diesel.

Where do you shop for clothes?

Liverpool I go to Selfridges at the Trafford Centre. I’m really not mad about shopping but I went to London for the first time in ages recently and spent loads of money in Harvey Nichols and Koh Samui.

What is your favourite high-street shop?

Gap – it’s great for T-shirts.

What is your favourite designer shop?

I own two black dresses from Celine that fit well. I like Nicole Farhi and Joseph for simple, classic clothes, and I also like Vivienne Westwood.

Do you have a fashion address book secret?

Season on London’s Gloucester Road. It’s very feminine and stocks lots of different designers.

What is your most extravagant purchase?

My £275 Gina shoes. I bought them for this year’s Soap Awards. Barbara Windsor was wearing an identical pair and we had a giggle about it.

Do you own more day wear than evening wear?

Yes. I’m 5ft 10, so I find wearing heels a bit uncomfortable unless it’s for a really smart occasion.

How much of your wardrobe is black?

Eighty per cent of my evening wear. I wear a lot of black in winter.

Have you had anything made to measure?

Scott Langridge, of the Hollyoaks wardrobe department, made me a full skirt out of a vintage dress with a black satin bodice to match.

Do you have a favourite little black dress?

A simple but flattering Celine dress with a leather tie that criss-crosses down the back. I wore it for my 21st birthday party last year.

What’s your best fashion bargain?

Gap T-shirts. They are hard-wearing and go with anything.

Is there anything about your body you dislike and if so how do you disguise it?

I’m not going to say, because that would draw people’s attention to it.

How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning?

Only a few minutes as my hair and make-up are done on set. I put out my clothes the night before, because I tend to dither in the morning and we are fined if we’re late to work.

Do you clear out your wardrobe each season?

No. I hang on to everything. I think it’ll come back into fashion one day.

Do you wear a G-string or briefs?

G-string. They’re so comfy, I wouldn’t wear anything else.

Is your underwear sporty or lacy?

Pretty and lacy. It’s mostly from M&S, those I’ve a Calvin Klein set, too.

Do you wear a bikini or a swimsuit?

A bikini. I’ve just bought one from Agent Provocateur.

What do you wear in bed?

Pretty slips, the top from my Gap grandpa pyjama set or nothing.

How many handbags do you own and what make are they?

I own a sequin and zebra-print bag from Accessorize, a gold DKNY bag, a rose-print bag from Le Sportif, a beaded vintage bag from Black Out II, and a favourite one from Billy Bag.

How big is your shoe collection?

Not massive, because heels make me uncomfortable. I prefer trainers.

How much do you spend on clothes each month?

It depends – when there are lots of awards ceremonies to attend I can spend anything from £200 to £500.

Do you ever use a stylist?

My mum is my stylist – I always take her advice, because I find it quite hard to find stuff I really like.

Do you wear silver or gold jewellery?

Silver or Platinum. My parents gave me a necklace for my 21st birthday that I wear all the time. I’ve an antique-looking pair of earrings from Marks & Spencer that I like.

What make of sunglasses do you wear?

Armani – I had a lovely classic pair but I left them on the tube when I was in London. I had a pair of Gucci sunglasses but I’ve lost those, too.

Which outfit makes you feel most sexy?

Anything in the sun – the sun makes me feel sexy.

Who is your style icon?

Gwyneth Paltrow always looks beautiful.

What was the last thing you brought from Marks & Spencer?

One of their brilliant secret support tops. They’re great because I’m quite big on top but they allow me to wear a vest top without a bra.

What item of clothing would you save from a burning house?

I’d just get my dog, Maggie.
